Privacy Policy
How Afghan Blood Bank collects, uses, shares, stores and deletes your information — on the website and in the Android app.
Last updated: 1 September 2026 · Applies to: afghanbloodbank.org and the Afghan Blood Bank Android app (org.afghanbloodbank.app)
Who we are
Afghan Blood Bank is a non-commercial service that connects voluntary blood donors with patients, hospitals and blood banks across Afghanistan. We are the controller of the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us at info@afghanbloodbank.org.
What we collect, and why
| Data | Why we need it |
|---|---|
| Name, phone number, optional second phone, email address | To create your account, to sign you in, and so a patient or hospital can contact you about a donation. |
| Blood group, age, gender, and the date of your last donation | To match you to compatible requests and to work out when you are next eligible to donate. Blood group and donation dates are health information. |
| Province and district | So requests near you reach you, and for the province leaderboards. |
| Precise location (GPS coordinates) | Only if you turn on the Nearby feature and grant location permission. It powers distance-sorted donor search. You can remove your stored location at any time from the app, and revoke the permission in Android settings. We do not collect location in the background or while the app is closed. |
| Google account email and name, if you use Google Sign-In | To identify your account. We verify Google's token on our server; we never receive your Google password. |
| Blood requests you post, pledges you make, messages you send, and feedback you leave | To operate the request and messaging features. |
| Notification token and app version | To deliver alerts about matching requests, and to diagnose faults. |
We do not collect payment details, contacts, photos, SMS, call logs, or advertising identifiers. The app contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
What is visible to other people
- Your name, blood group, province, district and availability are shown to other users searching for a donor. This is the core purpose of the service.
- Your phone number is shown to people searching for a donor unless you switch on “Hide phone number” in your profile. When it is hidden, people contact you through in-app messaging instead.
- If you turn on Nearby, other users see your approximate distance from them — not your exact coordinates and not your address.
- Verified blood bank and representative accounts can see donors they have registered themselves.
Who else receives your data
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising. We use a small number of service providers who process data only on our instructions:
- Amazon Web Services — hosting and database storage.
- Brevo — sending verification codes and account emails.
- Google — Sign-In verification, if you choose that sign-in method.
We may disclose information where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect someone from serious harm.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, we erase your profile, donation history, saved location, requests and messages within 30 days, except where we must keep a record to meet a legal obligation. Inactive accounts are reviewed periodically.
Deleting your account and data
- In the app: open Profile, then “Delete account”. This removes your account immediately.
- If you have already uninstalled the app, use the deletion request page — no sign-in needed.
Your rights and our security
- You can view and correct your details at any time from your profile.
- You can hide your phone number, turn off notifications, and remove your stored location without deleting your account.
- Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS. Passwords are stored hashed, never in plain text.
Children
Afghan Blood Bank is not intended for children. You must be at least 18 years old to register as a donor.
Changes and contact
